Andrew Hanson - Greely Class of 1997

In the beginning of the 1994 Greely baseball season, there were a lot of questions as to how well the young team would perform. Little did anyone know at the time what an extrodinary and instant impact a young freshmen by the name of Andrew Hanson would have on that team and the over the following 3 seasons.

As a freshmen, Andrew batted third in the order, hitting .367, 19 RBI, 21 runs and 3 homeruns in leading the Rangers to the Regional Championship. As a sophomore, Andrew drove in 19 more runs, 1 homerun, 4 doubles and a triple in leading the Rangers to another Regional Championship. As a junior in 1996, Andrew batted .340, 5 homeruns, 21 RBI with 26 runs scored on a team that was ranked in the top 5 in New England by NESN. Finally, only fitting in his senior year, the great Andrew Hanson led the Greely Rangers to our first State Championship in baseball batting .500, with 3 homeruns, 21 RBI and 26 runs scored.

In addition to his offensive prowess, Andrew was a golden glove first basemen and even pitched a complete game victory when the pitching was backed-up and the team needed him to step-in as a pitcher.

Andrew still holds career records at Greely with 80 runs scored, 96 career hits, 20 doubles, 12 homeruns, 38 extra base hits, 84 RBI and 164 total bases.

Andrew went on to become a 4-time All-Ivy League selection and rewrote the record book at Princeton.

In 2003, Andrew was drafted by the Evansville Otters of the Frontier League. In 2 years of pro ball, Andrew played 84 games, batting .244, 60runs, 28 RBI and 2 homeruns.

Andrew Hanson was inducted into the Greely Baseball Hall of Fame on June 2, 2007.
