The match-up featured the number two team (Gorham) and number three team (Greely) in Western Maine Class B according to the pre-season Maine Baseball Coaches association poll. The contest was also a match-up of last years two first team all-conference pitchers, Phil Schools of Gorham and Ryan Copp of Greely. Gorham struck first in the second inning, scoring an unearned run when John Burnheimer reached on an error and later scored on a wild pitch. Gorham added a run in the third when Sam Sturgis was hit by a pitch, stole second and scored on Ben Thayer’s single to center. Gorham blow the game open with four runs in the fourth highlighted by Brian Schools two run double to left. Despite only one hit, the Rangers did threaten throughout the game. The Rangers had nine batters reach base but could not get a clutch hit to plate a runner. The Rangers nearly missed 3 homeruns, flying out deep to the fence three times with men in scoring position. Sam Green singled to center for Greely’s only hit. Phil Schools pitched 6 innings, allowing one hit, walking 5 and striking out two. Ryan Copp for Greely took the loss, allowing 3 hits in 5 2/3 innings, walking 4 and striking out 2.
