Jordan allowed only three hits in five innings in his first start to lead Greely to a 10-1 victory over Freeport in a Western Maine Conference baseball game. "Normally, I wouldn´t go with a freshman in a game like this," Greely Coach Derek Soule said. "This is a big game for us, but our pitching is backed up." The move to Jordan, a 6-foot-2 right-hander with four wins in four starts with the junior varsity, enabled the Rangers (10-3) to save Ryan Copp for Friday night´s game against Gorham. Jordan, who struck out four and walked two, didn´t look like a freshman on the mound. "He did a good job in a small park," Soule said. "He kept the ball down. He kept it in the ballpark." Freeport´s hitters had a difficult time with the movement on Jordan´s 75-mph fastball. "I was a little nervous in the beginning," he said. "But as the game went on, I settled down. I just threw strikes and let my defense do the rest." Jordan pitched the first five innings. Sophomore Sam Green and Copp each followed with a scoreless inning. "The difference was they made the plays and we didn´t," Freeport Coach Chris Hayward said. "We gave them a lot of unearned runs. You take away those runs and it´s a different game." Freeport´s three errors helped the Rangers to six unearned runs. Greely opened the scoring in the first inning. With two outs, Brad Martin walked, moved to third on Copp´s solid single to center and scored on an error. Greely added four unearned runs in the third. With one out, Chris Martin walked and Brad Martin reach on an error that put runners on second and third. Copp doubled into the right-field corner to score both runners, and Will Knight followed with a homer over the center-field fence. The Rangers added three runs in the fourth. With two outs, Green singled and Chris Martin walked. Brad Martin, Copp and Knight hit consecutive singles to bring in the runs. The Falcons (8-5) scored an unearned run in the fourth inning. Ben Grant led off with the first of his two singles. After Tyler Allen walked, Grant moved to third on a fielder´s choice on Josh Zolla´s grounder to third and scored on a throwing error when Zolla stole second. Greely completed the scoring in the sixth. The Rangers loaded the bases on Green´s leadoff double, an error and a hit batsman. One run scored on a balk and the other came home on Knight´s groundout.
