Stauber Throws Masterpiece to Win State Title (6/20/2009) - Greely 2 vs Gardiner 0

Senior Sam Stauber saved his best for last. The right-hander came within one out of throwing a no-hitter but settled for a complete game, one-hit shut-out with 10 strike-outs to lead the Greely Rangers to the 2009 State Championship. Greely defeated the defending State Champion Gardiner Tigers 2-0 at St. Josephs college. Stauber walked the second batter of the game with one out and went on to retire 18 straight. A hit batter, a single and a wild pitch put runners on second and third with two-outs in the top of the seventh but Stauber struck-out the final batter to initiate the celebration. Pat Copps 2-out laser-beam single to left drove in Stauber, who had previously singled, with the games first run in the bottom of the first. Pinch-runner Josh Bilodeau scored the second run on a Kevin Hart ground-out. The win was Staubers 10th of the season, a school record. Kevin Hart tied a school record with his 29th RBI of the season. Pat Copp finished 2 for 2 with a RBI and a walk.
