Green steals ‘the show’ in Ranger win (5/2/2005) - Greely 5 at Lake Region 3

Junior Sam Green pitched 3 innings of scoreless relief, once working out of a no-out bases loaded jam, to earn the victory and stole home in the top of the ninth with the winning run to lead Greely to a 5-3 nine inning win of the Lake Region Lakers.

Down 3-1, Green led off the sixth with a single to right. With 2 outs, Jon Alley singled and Caleb Jordan walked. Green later scored on a balk to cut the lead to 3-2. In the seventh, Kevin Burke singled, stole second and scored on an over-throw of third. Greely finally ended it in the ninth when Green doubled advanced to third and stole home with the Lake Region pitcher going from the wind-up. Christian Robinson walked with the bases loaded to cap the scoring at 5-3.

Paul Valente pitched 5 strong innings in the no decision, allowing just 5 hits and striking-out 8. Green struck-out 7 in his 3 scoreless innings of relief. The Lakers loaded the bases with no-out in the eighth on 2 errors and an intentional walk. Green than got a ground-out in front of the plate and struck-out the next two batters. Sophomore Caleb Jordan pitched a perfect ninth for his first Varsity save.

Chris Martin hit a ‘monsterous’ solo home-run in the first inning.
